MATERIALS & JEWELRY CARE

925 STERLING SILVER

925 sterling silver, an alloy of 92.5% silver and 7.5% alternative metals for reinforcement, is the purest form of silver used for jewelry making. Silver jewelry from Sif Jakobs Jewellery is made from sterling silver and coated with rhodium for a polished finish.

PRODUCT CARE

It is important that you wear and care for your Sif Jakobs Jewelery with rhodium plating in the right way to ensure a long-lasting shine. Follow our general material care advice to keep your silver jewelery beautiful and shiny. Once the rhodium coating has worn off, it can be replated.

18 CARAT GOLD

Sif Jakobs Jewelery creates beautiful semi-precious jewelery in 925 sterling silver gilded with 18 carat rose gold or gold. Sif Jakob's gold-plated jewelery is very durable thanks to a high-quality 3-micron gold plating for rings and a 2-micron gold plating for earrings, necklaces, bracelets and bangles.

PRODUCT CARE

With proper care, gold-plated jewelry remains beautiful for a long time and can be re-gilded if necessary. Be extra careful when handling objects that can scratch your gold-plated jewelry, and follow general care tips to keep your favorite jewelry shiny for a long time.

ZIRCONIA

Shine with cubic zirconia stone without having to invest a fortune. Sif Jakobs Jewelery uses only the highest quality AAA grade zirconia. The stones are usually princess-shaped to optimize the reflection of light. These highly refractive, optically clear single crystals are durable and retain their color and brilliance - at a fraction of the price of real diamonds. Sif Jakobs Jewelery also uses treated and colored zircons, which gives the jewelery a playful touch.

PRODUCT CARE

Chemical contact can leave residue on the stones and make them look dull. Clean your zirconia stones every few weeks with a soft brush and warm water with a pH-neutral soap. Rinse with warm water and pat dry with a clean cloth to restore the stone's natural shine and clarity.

FRESHWATER PEARLS

Fresh water pearls are beautiful semi-precious stones that are organically created from freshwater mussels or shells. Sif Jakobs Jewelery uses naturally colored freshwater pearls in its collections, which are combined with cubic zirconia to create a stunning effect.

PRODUCT CARE

Because freshwater pearls are sensitive to scratches, you should store your pearl jewelry separately in soft jewelry bags. The best way to clean your pearl jewelry is to gently wipe it with a jewelry cleaning cloth after each use. It preserves their shine and prevents dirt from accumulating.

GENERAL CARE

The mantra for daily jewelery care is: "Let your jewelery be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off". Below are some jewelry care tips that can help protect your valuable possessions.

  • Demi-fine gold-plated jewelry can be damaged by chemicals in hairspray, perfume, hand sanitizer, and lotion. Always be sure to apply these products first and let them dry before putting your jewelry on, as alcohol, moisture, and chemicals in these products can cause color loss.
  • And remember to remove your jewelry before gardening, vigorous exercise, and any water-related activities such as swimming and water sports, as most metals and natural pearls react with chlorine, moisture, and sweat.
  • Dry your jewelry with a soft cloth at the end of the day. Regular cleaning with a polishing cloth prevents dirt build-up, easily removes discoloration and prevents rework so your jewelry retains its original shine and luster for longer.
  • To remove dirt from rhodium- or gold-plated jewelry, soak it in warm, clean water with a small amount of pH-neutral soap. Rinse thoroughly to remove any mineral residue and wipe immediately with a soft cloth.
  • To avoid scratches, it is also important to store the jewelry separately and safely, preferably in the original packaging or in a jewelry box with separate compartments when not in use. Jewelry folders also make it easier to find your favorite pieces.

COMMON QUESTIONS

CAN I BATH WITH MY JEWELRY?

No, we recommend that you take off your jewelery before bathing, showering, going to the sauna or solarium.Steam, moisture, fragrances and chemicals in soap and shampoo can make the materials dull and discolored.

CAN I WEAR MY JEWELRY DURING EXERCISE?

We recommend that you remove your jewelry before exercising. Sweat and alcohol in deodorants and disinfectants can react with metals, pearls or stones, causing color loss and a dull finish. Chlorine and salt can also damage metals, so you should not wear your jewelry while swimming. There is also a risk of damaging the jewelery if it is worn during physical activity.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CLEAN MY JEWELRY?

You should clean your jewelry that you wear every day about once a week, and other jewelry in your jewelry box about once a month.

HOW CAN I FIX THE LOCK ON MY EARRINGS?

Earrings can be difficult to close if the clasp is bent during use. This is easily remedied by gently pushing the latch, either up or down, so that it clicks back into place.
